Raising awareness is an essential component of our work in the refugee camps. A recurring observation in the camps is that many refugees are unaware of their rights and obligations. They often don’t know where to ask for help or who to turn to if they need it.
This ignorance makes them particularly vulnerable to abuse and violations of their rights. To address this problem, our coalition adopts a two-pronged approach to raising awareness: direct and indirect.
Direct contact helps to establish a climate of trust with refugees. Awareness-raising sessions can take the form of community meetings, training courses and group discussions. These interactions allow crucial information to be shared face-to-face, where refugees can ask questions and seek clarification.
Indirect: Disseminating information through indirect means, such as advertisements or radio broadcasts, can reach a wider audience and reinforce the messages conveyed during direct sessions. Capacity building for refugee leaders, advocates and other intellectuals.
